We have BIG NEWS to share!
MAYOR FULOP SIGNS FIRST VISION ZERO PLAN IN STATE OF NJ
Safe Streets JC celebrates a big step forward for traffic safety with Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s Feb. 9th signing of an Executive Order committing Jersey City to Vision Zero, an action plan to eliminate traffic deaths by 2026 and greatly reduce the number of serious injuries. Jersey City is the first municipality in New Jersey to commit to Vision Zero principles, and will join New York City as the second Vision Zero city in the metro area.
THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF YOU, EVERY ONE OF YOU! Every meeting, petition, story shared, and event you came to got us this win. We invite you to join us to be recognized by the Mayor during his State of the City speech on Thurs., Feb. 22 at 6:30pm at City Hall. We advise showing up no later than 6pm for a seat as it gets very crowded. When Safe Streets and Bike JC are recognized during the speech, please stand up. We need you and you deserve recognition for all your support.
The work on this is just beginning and will take time and continued commitment by all of us, and we are excited to have you with us. Safe Streets JC, with its ally Bike JC, will have membership on Jersey City’s Vision Zero Task Force, which will develop an action plan to eliminate traffic deaths. Ultimately, a focus on safety saves lives and improves the quality of life by making streets that are more walkable, bikeable, pleasant, and liveable.
“We applaud the Mayor for making a strong commitment to a comprehensive Vision Zero Plan for Jersey City, putting the life and health of all residents as our utmost priority, ” says Safe Streets JC President and Co-founder Kara Hrabosky. “Fatalities and serious injuries are not a tolerable byproduct of transportation and increased density, and safe mobility for everyone is critical in all parts of our city to keep us healthy and prosperous. We look forward to working with the Vision Zero Task Force to make lasting safety and access improvements citywide. Every crash prevented is a huge win for Jersey City residents.”
